Match Preview – Colchester United vs Mansfield

Updated: Mar 8

The Stags are back in action tomorrow and make the long journey to Essex to take on Steve Balls U’s at the JobServe Community Stadium looking to make it eight games unbeaten in Sky Bet League Two and maintain their unbeaten start to 2021.

Nigel Clough will be without George Lapslie after the 23 year old picked up a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s draw with Walsall. The only other player missing out is long term absentee Joe Riley who is still recovering from an ACL injury.

Last Time Out

Last time out the Stags came away from the west midlands with a point, thanks to skipper Ollie Clarkes strike in the 31st minute after some fantastic link up play between Jamie Reid and Jordan Bowery, the latter setting Clarke up with a simple finish from 8 yards.

Steve Ball’s men on the other hand are winless since the 8th of December where they beat Scunthorpe United 1-0. Their last game coming on the 6th February and a 0-0 draw away at Leyton Orient.

Last Time We Met

Nothing could split the teams last time they met back in October, now on loan striker Nicky Maynard bagging for the Stags, only for Luke Norris (Now at Stevenage) to draw the teams level late on.

Match Officials

The referee for Saturday’s match will be Christopher Sarginson, assisted by Marc Wilson and Mike Desborough. The fourth official will be Michael Chard.

Mr. Sarginson last took charge of a Mansfield fixture in our 3-3 draw with Crawley Town in December 2020.

Memorable Matches

One game which lives in the memory of Stags fans came in the 2018-19 season where the Stags, then under the stewardship of David Flitcroft, came from a two goal deficit at half time thanks to second half goals from Nicky Ajose, Tyler Walker and CJ Hamilton, now at Exeter, Coventry and Blackpool respectively.
