Stags See Red Again - Barrow 2-0 Mansfield

Updated: Mar 9

Ryan Sweeney's red card in the second half, as well as a brace from Bluebirds striker Patrick Brough was enough for Barrow to claim all three points at Holker Street.

Stags boss Nigel Clough made one change to the side that was beaten at Bradford midweek, midfielder Harry Charsley returns to the starting XI, replacing the injured George Maris.

Local lad and recent resigning Keaton Ward has a place on the bench, Stags still missing George Lapslie, Stephen McLaughlin and Oliver Sarkic.

The Stags had decent chance in the opening 10 minutes, Harry Charsley delivering a low ball into the box but his delivery just evaded Jamie Reid.

Moments later the Stags should've had the lead as Jordan Bowery gets the ball into the box and narrowly avoided Harry Charsley at the back post.

Ollie Clarke picked up the first booking of the game as Taylor shaped to shoot and Clarke caught the Barrow man as he attempted to make the clearance.

36th minute and it was the Stags again with another golden opportunity, Ollie Clarke unable to get Mal Bennings delivery on target and his header goes just over.

Ryan Sweeney got the second half underway with picking up an early booking but it was the Stags with the first chance of the second half. Harry Charsley with a powerful effort towards goal and Barrow 'keeper Dixon is forced to tip it over the bar.

For the second game in a row the Stags were reduced to 10 men, Ryan Sweeney picking up his second yellow of the game and the centre half was giving his marching orders by referee Carl Boyeson.

Minutes later the Stags had yet more bad news as 'keeper Aidan Stone goes down with nobody around him and Stags boss Nigel Clough is forced into a change, Marek Stech taking to the field for the first time the 10th January away at Cheltenham in the FA Cup.

It would be the hosts who broke the deadlock, Kellan Gordon tried to chest the ball down but Partick Brough nipped in and stole the ball off him and slotted the ball under Marek Stech.

Three minutes later is was two as a delivery from the by-line bobbles in front of Kellan Gordon and he could do nothing about it as it as the ball skips over his foot and falls straight to that man Patrick Brough again and he puts it in the back of the net.
